DNSPeek: Inspect DNS configuration and resolver behavior.

Which DNS servers is my Mac using, and do they respond?

Coming soon. DNSPeek is in development and is not part of the current MacPeek release. This page describes what it is planned to do; the screen below is an illustration, not the finished app.

The problem

Pages hang or a domain will not resolve. Which DNS servers is your Mac actually asking, and are they answering?

The solution

DNSPeek will show the active interface, resolver configuration and DNS servers, and measure lookup latency when you ask. It is read-only and never changes DNS settings.

Planned features

How it works

  1. Open DNSPeek from the launcher.
  2. Read your resolver configuration.
  3. Run a lookup to measure latency.

Installation

DNSPeek is not released yet. It is already listed in MacPeek's Manage utilities screen as Coming soon; when it ships it will appear there to switch on, with no separate download. Install MacPeek to get the launcher and PortPeek, DisplayPeek, USBPeek, SleepPeek, FileLockPeek, ProcessPeek, DiskPeek and EnvPeek today.

Privacy

What DNSPeek will read:

Access it needs: None.

Nothing about your Mac is sent to any server, and there is no account and no telemetry. DNSPeek will make network requests only when you ask it to run a check. Read the full privacy statement.

Open source

MacPeek and every utility in it are MIT-licensed. Read the code on GitHub, or see how a utility is built.

Want DNSPeek? It is on the roadmap. PortPeek, DisplayPeek, USBPeek, SleepPeek, FileLockPeek, ProcessPeek, DiskPeek and EnvPeek are built into the app today, and DNSPeek will arrive in the same app.
